Refreshing Rosérose

While rosé is a very versatile wine and is well suited to appetizers, cheese courses, even  entrees we like to tout our Callaway Special Selection Rosé of Sangiovese as the perfect picnic wine.  This wine is light and bright and is often more refreshing than a big red wine  or even a full bodied white wine on a hot day. Best served chilled, between 45-55 degrees, our 2012 vintage fills the nose and palate with a Summery bouquet of rosy red fruit and flowers—strawberry, cherry, raspberry, rose petal and cherry blossoms.  A whiff of whole allspice and star anise add to the fruity finish of red currant, watermelon and    tangerine.   Since winemaker, Craig Larson, started making this lovely rosé from estate  Sangiovese grapes  about eight years ago it has consistently won the most awards for us.

If you prefer your rosé on the sweeter side, have we got a wine for you.  The Callaway 2013 Special Selection Rosé of Cabernet has quickly become one of our most popular wines.  Fresh and fruity strawberry, raspberry and red currant aromas meld with rose petal and juicy watermelon on the palate.  The finish is refreshing, brimming with plump, ripe apricots and nectarine.   We are getting limited on quantities of the current vintage but fear not, we have another vintage following right behind.

There are many perfect foods to pair with rosé and this time of year we tend to cook lighter cuisine which suits rosé just beautifully.  Here are some of our favorite Summertime suggestions:  Melon and Prosciutto,  Olive Tapenade, Salad Nicoise, Tuna Tartare, Hamburgers, Grilled Sausages, Chicken or Lamb Cutlets with Rosemary, Salmon, and Caramelized Onion Tarts.

If you haven’t tasted our rosés  recently, come give these pleasant pink wines a try in our tasting room.  I know you will be glad you did!
